Once you have made the decision to begin your training in the martial arts of the Samurai and Ninja as taught at Bujinkan Christchurch you will need to know a few things before your first lesson.
To begin with:
- You do not need to have an advanced degree of of physical fitness before starting training. As long as you can walk we can (probably) work with whatever you present us with.
- You should wear comfortable clothing to your first lesson. A pair of track pants and a loose fitting T-shirt is fine. Please remove all jewelry if possible, especially necklaces, before training.
- Training fees are payable on the first day of each month and may be direct credited online. Account and fee details are available at class. A yearly membership fee is due in January and you will be invoiced for this in November of each year. This fee goes to the Bujinkan Hombu Dojo in Japan to register your membership.
- Be prepared to train barefoot. We train either barefoot or wear tabi (Japanese split toed boots).
- We use weapons and you will be exposed to things you have never experienced before. Consider this part of the training and accept that in the beginning things will be a bit strange. This is normal. You will soon get used to the format and the training methods. Persevere if you wish to succeed. All things come to those that wait.
- The only thing we ask that you bring with you is an open mind. We train in a fashion unlike most other martial arts. If you have trained anywhere else you will find we are quite different. Different techniques, different methods, different expectations. This is what makes us unique
- If there is anything that you do not understand do not hesitate to ask. If you don’t ask we don’t know what you are having a problem with. We would rather you ask a question than go away with the feeling that you have missed something important. There is no such thing as a stupid question.
- You should aim to be training twice a week to get the most from your training. It is also more cost efficient for you and represents considerable overall savings over the year.
This is just a basic list. we will cover more of what you need to know to get the most from your training when you come to class. Just ask and we shall help you however we can.
